Trusty Tuesday

Photo © Flickr user Ben

Anyone looking for free tv viewing options? With the exception of my trusty internet, I do not currently pay for media entertainment. so I look at other sources for my tv program viewing, like my new favorite show Kings on the NBC website. Though if you are a cable or satellite subscriber, I so encourage watching it on tv on Sunday nights at 8pm as online viewing doesn't count into the rating system,as nonsensical as it seems, for as for why the online viewing service is offered then, I do not know.
Irregardless; for online viewing options, there are plenty of shady type sites, but some that are 100 % legal and safe such as the network websites themselves that offer free online episodes. Also MSN http://tv.msn.com/tv/full-episodes/ I find that some shows on MSN work better than on the CBS website. CBS episodes for some reason are very choppy on my computer whereas much more often, they are not on MSN.
Well, I've done a bit of research and found some more legal tv viewing sites:
http://www.hulu.com/is another option.Just a note about finding stuff: Whereas MSN lays out numbered episodes, a bit more of a search is required with Hulu. There are categories such as drama ect. However a specific show title along with the episode may be put in the search box and it will come up.Hulu also offers some movies.
http://www.fancast.com/ offers tv and movies in a neat alphabetical fashion.
And http://www.joost.com/ which used to require a special program download is now online. There listings are filed categorically but program titles can be found by typing them into the search box.Joost has more clips than full episodes for which I do not care for, but its one free and legal option to check out.

Ever wondered if there are any matched saving programs for business start-ups, educational pursuits, house purchases and similar lofty goals? Or didn't wonder because of the seeming impossibleness of entrepreneurship for people who fall in a low income bracket. Well, it's true, like many other financial aid type programs, they usually are not widely advertised, but do exist.
One is commonly called The Family Development Account Program (often shortened to FDA) I did not find a main site linking to individual programs;however, there are several individual program sites under the title Family Development Account Program or FDA. Some programs are conducted through the Woman, Work and Community Program.
Here are 2 FDA Program example links:

Tuition free Boarding Schools

Tuition Free schools for children affords income eligible children to receive a particular brand of education that otherwise they could not. The existence of tuition subsidized private schools and charter schools is common knowledge:Tuition free public schools with freedoms that traditional schools do not have such as the incorporation of unique philosophies.
There is another choice for tuition free education for children in the form of boarding schools. There are a only handful of them as with tuition free colleges.
Now Please note that the listings and info provided here about the boarding schools is not a recommendation of them or even of boarding schools in general, but simply provides program awareness.
Keep in mind that the following tuition free boarding schools are not detention type.

The "college" in Girard College can be misleading as it is a boarding school for children from 1st -12th grade and up to 10th grade for acceptance into the program. for children from single parent families in the low income bracket:http://www.girardcollege.com/girard/site/default.asp
The school boosts an approximate 95% rating higher education attendence rate of Girard graduates http://www.girardcollege.com/4398_96712153951/site/default.asp

The Milton Hershey Boarding School for children from age 4 - graduation, although applicant must not be beyond age 15 upon acceptance into the school:http://www.mhs-pa.org/
There is also is a college tuition assistance program for graduates of The Milton School.

Phillips Exeter Boarding Academy states that they are currently providing no cost tuition for accepted students with a family income level at or under$75.000 http://www.exeter.edu/admissions/15848.aspx

Super Saturday

For those that say there is nothing in this world for free, I would say in response to the cynically unenlightened character, that the evidence is in the mail.Ha!
I did in fact receive a few neat things in the mail over the last couple of days.OK, today, I received the Charmin Mega Roll Extender. Basically, it is a roll holder that accommodates jumbo size toilet paper rolls. I don't generally get jumbo rolls, but it wouldn't hurt to have a spare tp rollholder!
This offer link as well as any can be found by typing in the title/product or object name in the search blog box. For example type Charmin Extender or simply toilet paper, and viola, it is under the March 5thlisting.

As for yesterday,I was sent a Spider-Man Storm Cage anti smoking comic book,Save Our Species coloring Book, both are very fun & informative-A great gift for children! I even received an Always personal care product.

Here's a not so healthy but full of nostalgia and loaded with sugar candy sample! http://billyboycandiesonline.com/ourcandy.html

Have your Education and Afford it Too

A few years ago, one of the speakers at a financial aid seminar at my then high school senior son’s high school, made a shocking statement, one that goes completely against public impression, something to the effect that College can be "inexpensive" However, the speaker went on to explain that the afore-mentioned statement is only applicable when available resources are utilized. However, the fact is, a high percentage of college bound students along with their families are oblivious to the majority of excellent but often obscure resources and programs.
Through extensive research into college programs and scholarship opportunities, I discovered that not only it is possible for college to be affordable; there in fact actually exist a handful of tuition free college tuition programs. While there are a limited number of these types of colleges and programs, with a limited number of spots, as well as many that have restrictions such as financial need, and educational backgrounds, the amount of enormous savings offered from a tuition free package is one of the little known college affordability options to investigate.
An article from Newsweekentilited"Tuition Free Colleges" lists several wonderful programs:http://images.businessweek.com/ss/07/11/1114_tuitionfree/index_01.htm The NewsWeek article does not include links, so have included them here with an overview from some of the research and other tuition free college program info that I have found.
Some of the tuition free schools such Berea and Olin accept international students. Also, the Us does not include links to the colleges , so am here. However, keep in mind that College of the Ozarks:http://www.cofo.edu/region.asp accepts most applicants from limited geographical range:Alice Loyd accepts applicants from out of the region but the site states that tuition is guaranteed toto full-time students residing in Alice Lloyd College’s 108-county Central Appalachian service area.http://www.alc.edu/

Berea College: http://www.berea.edu located in Berea Kentucky, grants admitted students a 4 yr tuition free education. Tuition costs and education related expenses are offset through a work requirement of 10 –15 hours weekly in one of the school’s many labor depts. High academic achievement and financial need are two of the basic admission requirements. A preliminary financial aid calculator is offered at the website to prospect the students financial criteria eligibility:
http://www.berea.edu/prospectivestudents/qualify/default.asp
One of the many unique offerings at Berea is family housing (Ecovillage) for married couples or single parent families.

The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
http://www.curtis.edu/html/10000.shtml is a tuition free music college for all accepted applicants.

Deep Springs College: An all male student campus located on a cattle ranch in Deep Springs California offers a no cost tuition in a non-traditional setting. With 11-15 students accepted each year according to the website, equal emphasis on labor and academics http://www.deepsprings.edu/home

Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering: Located in Needham Mass. Students accepted into this highly selective college are granted tuition free coverage. Need based financial aid is available for additional expenses such as books, room and board:http://www.olin.edu/admission/costs.asp

Webb Institute: A highly select college in Glen Cove New York with a single major offering-Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Tuition costs for all 4 years are covered with costs limited to books, room and board ect.http://www.webb-institute.edu/index.html
There is also Quest Bridge College Match: http://www.questbridge.org/index.html is a college match program linking students to several select institution participants that provide 100 % need based tuition, room and board to accepted applicants with the majority covering college related expenses such as books and travel.

Wonderful Wednesday

Online Free-sharing tip of day: Inside Gardening.I like many others this time of year already have tiny shoots! They are seedlings that will be transplanted into an outdoor garden in asp a couple f months from this date. Of course one reason that many do not garden is the lack of space rationale. However, it is possible to have garden fresh produce all year round right inside living quarter areas!I recently was given this link and have been so excited about the concept. Next fall, after my outside harvest has been eaten and stored,I for one will be be busily planting my inside garden. If some seeds are saved for re-plantation then, hey, that's free food technically. While the size of the produce may not be humongous: the old saying "Good stuff comes in small packages" will be proof in the symbolic pudding! Here is one basic how to inside gardening link:
http://gardengal.net/page44.html Also, as the link article mentions pollination but does not give specific instructions on the process, here is one that does. Note first though that not all plants need pollination as this short article states:http://www.ehow.com/how_2102682_hand-pollinate-garden-plants.html

Please throw a post in the comments box telling any free-sharing related stories! It seemed to me that the title Free-sharing is a more accurate site description and so hence the title change.

A couple of days ago, I learned from:A Blog of Goodies:http://www.ablogofgoodies.com/2009/02/freebie-cookies-crafts-at-uno.html that Uno's Chicago Grill is offering a cookie and craft s night on Tuesdays from 5-8pm. Uno's website, however, offered no info on this event, so contacted the co who confirmed that the Uno's chain of restaurants is indeed offering the Tuesday night event though it may be a short lived event but will last throughout this month of March. Here is the contact info for all of the Uno restaurants if you want to make sure your local restaurant is participating and specific details on this temp weekly event:http://www.unos.com/location.html
An interesting note about Unos that I didn't know till the other day is that Health Magazine put Uno's on the top of their healthiest restaurants list for 2009.The restaurant even offers gluten free selections.

The Howard Hughes Medical Center offers science related publications and videos/dvds at no charge. http://www.hhmi.org/catalog/main?action=home Note that there are more dvd's than video tapes available. I typed videos as I often consider dvds, videos. Well, after ordering, I noticed that the films are offered in both dvd $ video tape format, so I contacted customer service to change my order to the dvd format. There are a couple of films on evolution which I did not order, but there are many other films that look great! Note that the films are shipped throughout to Canada & US and the publications are sent out to many countries. One of the no cost publications that The foundation offers is their HHMI magazine:http://www.hhmi.org/catalog/main?action=getCategoryListing&catId=6

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute also offers scholarships for educational programs such as college bridge type programs such as where students gain college credit prior to the student's freshman year most often the summer before. Admission is usually very selective and limited. Also, the program may not be well publicized-that I know from personal experience,so here is a list of participating colleges to make inquiry at a specific institution where the program is offered:http://www.hhmi.org/resources/diversity/participants_hhmi.html

Children's Private School Fund

The lack of spendable cash does not mean that families need to go without completely. I am not just referring to token items. There are many non profit programs that provide financial assistance to those who fall in the low income bracket. There are some listed at bottom of page under "No Cost Items & and Program Links"
I want to mention some wonderful educational scholarship programs that I am aware of:

The Children's Scholarship Fund:http://www.scholarshipfund.org/index.asp provides private school scholarships for children in k-8th grade. The FAQ states that homeschoolers are eligible to apply for a scholarship. The site also has a listing of other private school funds that operate independently of The The Children's Scholarship Fund and have programs guidelines that are independent of the CHF. An example being that some of these programs such as The Maine Children's Scholarship Fund offer tuition assistance from k-12 including homeschoolers. At CHF's main site click on Resources on left side of page, then Other Sources of Scholarships and Tuition Assistance.

Financially Fantastic Friday

Freecycling Delights Tip of Day: Bag Savings
Many stores give cents off discount for using using canvas bags. However, having some items bagged in plastic and paper can also cut costs if used as a replacement store bought garbage bags. I use a paper bag for a liner and insert the grocery/store bag into it. When full, another plastic bag can be used to wrap up the other two for additional coverage.

Today, I have received some items that I did not post earlier because I didn't know I was to receive them along with my catalog.
I received a bag clip, paper pad with detachable cover& pen,2 separate pens and a small canvas bag!
